Hostinger vs Bluehost: 6 Things to Compare Before You Buy Hosting
Both hosts are popular with beginners. Rather than declaring a winner, this guide shows you what to compare, and where to check it, so you can decide on the day you buy. Plans and prices change often, so this post doesn't list any.
Links below go to each host's own site: Hostinger · Bluehost. If I later earn a commission from either, those links will be labeled "(paid link)".
Renewal price, not just the intro price
Hosting is often cheaper for the first term. Find the renewal price for the same plan and term on each host's pricing page or at checkout, and compare those, not just the first-term price.
Free domain: what happens if you cancel?
A "free" domain usually comes with conditions. Both hosts' refund policies say the domain's cost can be taken out of a hosting refund (details below).
Free SSL and backups
SSL (the browser padlock) is a must. Check whether SSL and automatic backups are included in the specific plan you're looking at, how often backups run, and how you'd restore one.
Website builder, WordPress, or both
Want drag-and-drop? Look for a builder. Want more flexibility and plugins? Look at WordPress hosting. Check which option each plan includes.
Support hours and live chat
Check each host's support page for current hours and channels (chat, phone, tickets), and try a pre-sales chat question to see how quickly you get a useful answer.
Refund window
Know how long you have to change your mind and what's excluded. See the box below.
Good to know: both offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on hosting
Checked Oct 30, 2026 on each host's own policy pages. Refund policies change; re-check before you buy.
- Hostinger: products "may be refunded only if canceled within 30 days of the date of the transaction." Exclusions include VPS plans and the first payment after a free trial; domain renewals aren't refundable, and a free domain's standard price may be deducted from a refund. Sources: Hostinger refund policy (page shows "Last revised 2026-10-29"); Hostinger support: refund policy.
- Bluehost: a 30-day money-back guarantee on Shared, VPS and Dedicated hosting fees for new signups. Excludes Cloud Hosting, monthly-term plans, domain fees, setup fees and add-ons; applies to credit card payments only; a free domain's standard registration fee is deducted from the refund. How to decide
Open both pricing pages side by side, write down the six items above for the plan and term you'd actually buy, and pick the one that fits your budget at renewal, includes what you need, and has support you can reach.
